Imojjen's Review of Mars Hill Cafe, August 26, 2011
on friday night I went to see st jambience and telafonica at mars hill café. first we drove there. me and aeowy sat in the back with blake and we were all complete nutters (especially blake). when we got to the café, we all had to help unpack the car. i thought that was fun. we had to wait a while before the music started. we had paper and textas to share with all the kids that came and quite a few came. when st. jambience started, every thing quietened down. the music was great. i think it's incredible what people can do with electronics. that went for a while and then it was telafonica's turn. Before they started, heaps of the teachers from my school came to watch mum and dad because they are teachers too. i think telafonica is great because they use very unusual instruments or very strange things as instruments. like a type writer. There was a great moment, when it was an instrumental bit in a song, when ellie was dancing around with the tambourine, dad was on the drum and mum and blake were playing. My favourite songs that they played are unravelling man and sister zephyr. they sounded great really loud. when they finished, everybody was chattting while me, aeowy and telafonica packed up. i was very tired because it was getting late. Then we went home. I had a great time and I thought it was really fun!:)

photoshoot
the photographer at the parramatta paper wants to do their own photos for the article, because none of the types of things i sent them were suitable. it needs to happen by monday afternoon at the latest. so we're booked in to meet him/her at mars hill at 3:45 on monday afternoon. bec, i've told them we have a strict deadline of leaving at 4:15 so we can get imojjen. blake, i know you're not free but the only other possible time was today at 4, at which time bec and i were the only ones free, so monday is the best of two less than ideal options. but if there was any chance of being there, that would be excellent.

mars hill café
matt wakeling is playing a show at mars hill cafe on wednesday, august 11 as st jambience - his improvised soundscape music. he's asked us if we'd like to play. would we? other options might be for lessons in time to play a set as blake is keen to get that happening (but it might be too close, not sure - blake?). i've also been discussing an improvised ambient/noise thing with julian rojas which we could maybe do. my guess is it would be a bit more low-key on a wednesday than it would on a saturday. anyway, i'm keen to do something in whatever setup. what does everyone else think?

thursdays, saturdays and sundays.
so we're booked in to play august 20 at the hollywood hotel in surry hills. we're on at 9:20 for 40 mins. and also, to confirm for your diaries, we are doing radio social at the world bar on sunday, september 20.
i've also made a tentative booking at mars hill for saturday, nov 14, in order to launch the new album. is everyone free for that and happy to play? any suggestions for support bands? lessons in time? or someone outside who can bring extra audience members?
and on that note, it also means we need to have an album ready ion the night. i would ideally love to have it ready about 3 weeks beforehand so we can send out promos to radio and media. david - is that a realistic timeframe in which to get the artwork together? i would imagine, say, october 23rd-ish.
